Starting Monday, October 16, 2023, UIT will begin to cap University of Utah Google Workspace storage limits, which the company announced last year would no longer be unlimited. Currently, the University of Utah’s agreement with Google provides 25 gigabytes (GB) of free storage for student accounts and 150GB of free storage for faculty and staff accounts.
As soon as possible, users who have surpassed their allotted U of U Google Workspace storage limit must reduce their storage use to the appropriate level or pay for additional U of U Google Workspace storage ($180/terabyte per year). Users can visit this Google webpage (uNID@gcloud.utah.edu login required) to review their storage use. To purchase additional U of U Google Workspace storage, please complete this ServiceNow form (login required).
Users who still exceed their allotted storage limit after October 16 will be unable to add new files to their university Google Workspace accounts unless they purchase additional storage. Please note that Google Workspace is intended for the storage of university-related collaboration files, not large-scale research data, long-term storage, or system backups.
Those with research computing storage needs should contact the Center for High Performance Computing (CHPC) or by opening a ticket in ServiceNow (login required). CHPC storage options and costs vary. For more information, please visit this webpage.
